Commands

There are two basic kinds of commands: "You" commands and "We" commands.

A. "You" commands are used to give orders and instructions and to make requests.

   a) Instructions.
Go straight ahead for 5 blocks. Then, turn right onto Lincoln Avenue.
Apply the contents on your face. Leave it there for a few minutes. Then, rinse it with a lot of water.

    b) Orders.
Sit down and don`t move until I return.
Wait here. Don't move.

    c) Requests.
Please help me with these packages. They're really heavy.
Wait for me, please. I'll be back in a minute.

Negative form.

Don't be silly. She loves you very much.
Don't just stand out there. Please come in.

B. "We" Commands. (Let's ...)

"We" commands are used to make invitations and suggestions.

   a) Invitations.
Let's have dinner together next Saturday.
Let's go to the movies tomorrow night.

   b) Suggestions.
Let's wait outside. It's too hot in here.
Let's give the others a hand, so that they may finish soon.

Negative form.
Let's not waste time. Let's go now.
Let's not hesitate. Let's be firm and confident.
